Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. Along with the universal Christian Church and the Missouri Synod, Christ Our Savior is a Confessional Church and teaches the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments.
About the Bible
Every Lutheran teaching comes from the Bible: God's message of love and hope for all people. The Bible is the written Word of God, and its teaching is always true. The chief teaching of the Bible is that Jesus Christ paid for the sin of the world through His life, death, and resurrection and that through faith in Him we have the forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
There is only one true God - the Holy Trinity. He is three persons, yet one God. The nature of God is beyond our understanding, but we know this truth from Holy Scripture (for example, Matthew 28:19-20).
Worship at Christ Our Savior is beautiful, reverent, practical and timeless. It is not based on "what we want" but on what the Lord says He wants in worship. After all, we worship Him, not ourselves. Our services are liturgical. That means that every word of the service is a Bible quote, paraphrase or commentary on the Word of God; based on generations of insight and wisdom in applying God's gifts to the lives of His people. What does God want to give to His people? His Word, His Wisdom, His Forgiveness, Himself. . . for that reason, the Lord's Supper, during which the Lord affirms, "This is my Body, given for you for the forgiveness of your sins" is the high point. However, each part works together and has elements that have been part of the Lord's worship for over 3000 years. Through this, God gives eternal gifts to His people.
About Charitable Works and Love for our Neighbor
The Bible says, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom" (James 3:13). Christ Our Savior is known throughout the community for our charitable outreach, our dedication to those in need, and our work to bring food and care to those in Panama City Beach and throughout the world. Yet, we simply believe this is the Lord working through us to love His children. We love to do the work and we do a lot of it, but it is the Lord working through us.
Confessional Standard Want to know a lot more? The teachings of the Lutheran Church have been set forward on almost every controversial issue in a book called The Book of Concord. The book was originally compiled in 1580 to demonstrate that Lutheran teachings were based completely on a proper understanding of the Bible. Since that time, "Confessional Lutherans" (those who "confess" these things), have asked people of faith to research our position on the basis of the Word of God and see if we teach truthfully. Many challenges have come over the years, but those challenges only affirmed we were Biblically correct.
